Soft Strike for May 1st
Hey y'all, I meant to write a more substantive newsletter for this, but life got in the way. That's probably gonna keep happening for a while, and I appreciate your patience.
Tomorrow is May Day --International Workers' Day. We don't recognize this in the States, intentionally, because it recognizes and builds solidarity among workers. As the world continues to crumble, I think it's important that we build traditions toward this idea against capital. So, let's celebrate! Let's all soft strike.
To do so, I recommend that you take it incredibly easy tomorrow if you can't simply call off work. If you can, do. If you can't, do nothing. At work, that is.
In real life, you should do things. Bake some bread and give a loaf to a neighbor. Take some books you aren't reading and put them in Free Little Libraries. Build a Free Little Library! Work in your garden. It's that time of year.
I am going to plant some dwarf apple trees. I was recommended against them but I bought several for our tiny yard and am planting them on our fence so people walking down our alley can have a little treat. It is a very, very small rebellion against the day, but it is something. I believe in small acts of rebellion.
Begin where you can. If it's today, or tomorrow, or a month from now. A little is not nothing. A little helps. There's a reason a loaf of bread is a potent symbol, and that flour is our most basic aid. Small rebellions are still rebellions. I hope that you started long ago but if today is where you start, I am so glad. Welcome to the fight.
